Return to form…

March 23, 2011

Creatively, I’ve been out of the game a while. In a time not so long ago, I wrote poetry, songs and short stories. I made fan-videos on YouTube, and I was blogging at least once a week. I’m not exactly sure what happened to all of that, but I have missed the creative outlet I once had. I think maybe leaving University and not ‘having’ to write and be scheduled to things made some of the other parts of life similarly uninspired. Yesterday that changed. I have no idea where the flash of inspiration came from (and I’m certainly not going to complain about it!), but yesterday I sat and made a music video for the first time in 3 years. I’m blaming a TV show I’ve just become ever so slightly obsessed with… But whatever the reason, it can only be a good thing right?! I guess make the decision for yourself –

The video is based on the characters of Emily (Shay Mitchell), Maya (Bianca Lawson) and Paige (Lindsey Shaw) from the ABC Family Drama Pretty Little Liars. Set to the song Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap …hope you enjoy!

Guess lesbianism gets my creative juices flowing… :p

In Joss We Trust.

If you’re a Buffy fan (and why wouldn’t you be?!) you may be shocked to hear that Warner Bros. have announced that they are moving forward with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer “reboot”  …without the involvement of Joss Whedon *gasp*

What are they thinking?!
I mean it’s not as if he spent years writing the original Buffy scripts, and has tried and tested writing and directing a motion picture before (Serenity) …so why on Earth was he not the natural pick for involvement? Unless of course, they’re going to crucify the whole story…

Here’s what the legend himself had to say on the matter:

This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, “Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER.” Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, “I’ll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!” Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?

I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don’t love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I’m also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can’t wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I’m making a Batman movie. Because there’s a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.

Leave me to my pain! Sincerely, Joss Whedon.

If you’re interested, HERE is the original story, aptly titled ‘Worst Idea Ever?’

Damn Hollywood!

March 3, 2010

Ok, so I’ve just discovered something that has got me very VERY upset. One of my favourite British comedies of recent years is Death at a Funeral, and for some crazy reason the powers that be at Hollywood have decided they need to taint this by remaking it. As someone that has studied the film industry and have often longed to be apart of it, I hang my head in shame. What has come of the World? Has no one heard the phrase – If it’s not broke, don’t fix it?!

I’ve watched the trailer for this abomination, and it is literally the same film, but with a sprinkling of black jokes (they’ve gone for a largely African-American cast) and a few slapstick moments thrown in there for poor measure. For starters, there’s no way that James Marsden will ever be able to compete with the genius performance from Alan Tudyk (their character get’s accidentally drugged with hallucinogens  just before the funeral). The other performances then just seem over played and stereotypically ‘black’. And whats more, is that Peter Dinklage (the guy that plays the midget), is going to play the same character in this American version. Changing the character from a Peter to a Frank …good work there Hollywood

 …this is just retarded.

Doubt me?! You can tell all of this (and so much more…) from the trailers alone!

The story is…

Crap movie.
Good quote.

Cruuuuuuuush Time!!

Hold your breath and pray this will kick ass!

The Runaways

Yes, that’s Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett.

Yes, you’re not the only one that finds that seriously hot.

And yes, the rumours are true, they will share a “passionate kiss” on screen!

The movie is set to debut over the pond March 19th, so who knows when the good ol’ UK will get it …but it better be soon after …I can’t wait!

Calling all geeks…

December 30, 2009

So one of the many DVDs I had this Christmas, was a film called Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel  (wierd title right?!). Anyways, after splitting my sides for a good hour watching this flick, I feel I am doing my duty by spreading the word, and telling you all to watch this movie …it’s a good ‘un!!

Oh, and I promise it’s better than the trailer makes it look… ;p

No chance, no way…

I thought my heart had learned its lesson
It feels so good when you start out
My head is screaming get a grip, girl
Unless you’re dying to cry your heart out

It’s too cliché
I won’t say I’m in love…

Sometimes…

…having a blog makes me sad, because it sits there looking at me, waiting for me to write something on it like an expectant child looking for affection from an indifferent parent. I have nothing to say right now… *sigh*

Oh wait! I finished reading another book – The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.
It was shocking. Don’t bother.
What is it with books and rape eh?! I’m sick of it. Sick of reading about it/watching it/thinking about it. Ugh!

Just wait for the film to come out.
Peter Jackson can only make it better…

…one would hope.

Make my dreams

September 18, 2009

Ok, so there are two reasons for this post. First of all, I finally found a video for the scene in 500 Days of Summer I was talking about with the big musical number, and secondly I asked that girl from the other week out …and she said yes!! Woop!

What I want, you’ve got
And it might be hard to handle
But like the flame that burns the candle
The candle feeds the flame
What I’ve got’s full stock of thoughts
and dreams that scatter
You pull them all together
And how, I can’t explain
But You make my dreams come true
On a night when bad dreams become a screamer
When they’re messin’ with the dreamer
I can laugh it in the face
Twist and shout my way out
And wrape yourself around me
‘Cause I ain’t the way that you found me
I’ll never be the same
‘Cause You make my dreams come true
I’m down on the daydream
That sleepwalk should be over by now
I know that You make my dreams come true!

Screw Hollywood!

September 15, 2009

Ok, so after watching what could be classed as a few ‘indie’ films recently, I’ve decided that hollywood is to blame for people’s lack of appreciation. The move industry seems to have caused a kind of formula that films have to stick to, and if they don’t, they are immediately seen as something different to be disliked. Last night a friend and I watched Adventureland which we both thought was amazingly good, meanwhile 4 people actually got up and left half way through! Similarly, I reviewed 500 Days of Summer a few posts ago saying how great it was, but since then I’ve had nothing but people tell me what a terrible film it was and how they didn’t ‘get’ it. What’s going on with society today that as soon as a comedy is released which the humour isn’t smack-you-in-the-face obvious, and a romantic-comedy that is only subtly funny and isn’t a ‘love’ story, they freak out and dislike them?! People need to watch some more films with me ..I’ll sort them out! Rant over.
